2018 Sister Cities Youth Leadership Conference

Are you eager to learn about global issues? As the premier youth service-learning and travel abroad organization in San Antonio, Summer of Service (SOS) is leading a delegation of student ambassadors to the Sister Cities Youth Leadership Conference in Aurora, Colorado from August 1-5.

This summit will help youth develop effective problem solving strategies, leadership skills, and insight on international affairs. The youth who attend this conference will learn how to different national interests drive international cooperation on critical issues. The 2018 summit will be Sister Cities 62nd anniversary. The summit will feature a specialized diplomatic simulation moderated by the U.S. Diplomacy Center, site visits, speaker sessions, and peer collaboration.

YWCA Mi Carrera Scholarship for Teen Moms

The YWCA San Antonio was chartered in 1910 with the mission of developing personal
empowerment and self-sufficiency in women and their families. Through its hard work in
the last century, the YWCA of San Antonio has become a trusted part of San Antonio
and its rich culture. Today the YWCA strengthens families in the San Antonio
community by providing an array of programs that focus on childcare and early
education; economic empowerment; youth development; and health and wellness.

The Mi Carrera college scholarship has been created by individuals who believe in the
mission of the organization and the positive impact of a college education. The YWCA
Mi Carrera Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who is a teen mother and
has participated in the Mi Carrera parenting program.

The Mi Carrera Scholarship consists of:
· Paid tuition for two consecutive years at an Alamo College
· Paid tuition for two consecutive years at Texas A&M University-San Antonio
· Book support of $500 each semester ($150/summer)

The San Antonio Pop Con is a celebration of everything pop culture.

There will be panels, authors, artists, cosplay contests,anime, manga, art contests and various other activities.

Volunteers are needed to assist with these activities.

-Open to all ages. We will have prizes given to adults, teens and children.
-Entries must be your own work (created by the artist entering the contest) and no larger than 8 1/2″ X 11″
-They may be black & white or color and in any 2-dimensional medium.
-Entries will not be accepted in frames or in glass or acrylic holders.
-Limit of one entry per person.
-Winners will be announced after the Cosplay Contest.
-Entries will be displayed at the Pop Con

Free Heart Screening for Teens @ Piper-Bass Student Center
Feb 24 @ 8:30 am – 10:00 am

A parental waiver must be signed in order for teens to receive a heart screening. Teens should wear loose fitting clothing. Screening includes an electrocardiogram (ECG) and if needed a limited 2-D echocardiogram (ECHO). The screening process typically takes approximately 20 minutes per student. NOTE: AVERAGE WAIT TIME VARIES.
Screenings are offered at no charge. For those choosing to make an optional donation, $25 offsets the cost to screen one student.

FOUNDATION INFORMATION: AugustHeart strives to prevent sudden cardiac death in students ages 14-18 in San Antonio and surrounding counties by providing free heart screenings.

Join Boy With A Ball San Antonio (BWABSA) as they connect with the San Antonio community and build stronger neighborhoods through the LoveYourCity BWABSA Project.

Any and all skills are welcomed and celebrated! You must be at least 15 years old and go through a 3 hour orientation/training.

The LoveYourCity BWABSA takes place Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM
